Processor chip that will be used by Apple in the next generation iPhone is the A8 chips are packed together with DRAM memory aliases in a single package system-on - chip ( SoC ) . Based on information from Digitimes , Tuesday ( 28/01/2014 ) , Apple has appointed three semiconductor companies to make the processor .
All three semiconductor companies include the Arizona company Amkor Technology , STATS ChipPAC Singapore , and Advanced Semiconductor Engineering ( ASE ) . As reported by Digitimes , Tuesday ( 28/01/2014 ) , as many as 40 percent of Apple A8 SoC processor will be manufactured by Amkor and STATS ChipPAC . While ASE A8 processor will produce as much as 20 percent for the latest generation of Apple devices .
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company , Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ( TSMC ) , is also believed to have produced the majority of Apple A8 SoC processor . TSMC reportedly will begin production using 20nm technology for Apple A8 processor in the second quarter of 2014.
