After providing a CMOS sensor for the rear camera on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s , Sony reportedly will also provide a sensor for the front camera on the next -generation iPhone , in this case probably the iPhone 6 .
According to a report from Nikkei , they claim that Apple may turn to Sony for front -facing camera , which is currently supplied by OmniVision .
This is quite reasonable considering that many users like the quality of the rear camera sensor on the iPhone 5 and 5s , so Apple also wants the front camera capable of producing images that are also qualified.
Reportedly if the two companies are negotiating , so the front camera will switch to the iPhone 6s Sony CMOS sensor in 2015. Sony itself is expected to increase the supply of camera components to double next year . This means that the company can produce front and rear cameras .
Through this agreement is expected Sony to increase production of the 200 million sensors per year for Apple , so an increase of 100 % from 100 million sensors per year that currently Sony provide to Apple . To help cope with this workload , Sony even said to have acquired a Japanese chip manufacturers to help increase production .
